[Saba Sports News] FIFA officially announced recently that aside from the trophy and gold medals, the champion of the United States-Canada-Mexico World Cup will also receive championship rings. This marks the first time FIFA has awarded championship rings to a tournament winner, introducing one of the most iconic traditions of American professional sports to global football. FIFA stated the rings will be strictly limited to a total of 2,026 individually numbered pieces as a tribute to this edition of the World Cup. Thirty rings will be awarded to the championship squad, while the remaining 1,996 will be released worldwide as official licensed merchandise for fans, allowing supporters to own a one-of-a-kind World Cup memento. Each ring bears an engraving of the World Cup trophy on one side, with custom detailing tailored to the winning nation on the reverse. Every numbered piece is custom-crafted and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Immediately after the final whistle, the winning captain and head coach will be presented with temporary rings to commemorate the occasion. The 30 official full rings will later be personalised and distributed to the champion team.
The editor believes that this move aims to bring the long-standing championship ring tradition from North American professional sports into global football, adding a brand-new symbol of glory for World Cup winners. Together with the FIFA World Cup Trophy and gold medals, the championship rings will serve as an everlasting mark of the champions’ triumph.
