The Wizards aim to sign Anthony Davis to a long-term deal but refuse to offer him a supermax contract. Starting August 6 this year, Anthony Davis becomes eligible for an extension. The maximum available deal is a four-year contract worth $275 million. Davis’s existing contract stands at $175 million over three seasons. He will earn $58.45 million next season, followed by a $62.78 million player option in the subsequent campaign. Nevertheless, age and injury concerns represent two major hurdles for Anthony Davis. Born on March 11, 1993, Davis is currently 33 years old. The Wizards are looking to offer him a two or three-year contract. If Anthony Davis exercises his player option, the remaining commitment will span four to five seasons in total. He will turn 37 or 38 by the time the contract expires. Over the past seven seasons, Anthony Davis has appeared in an average of 48.7 regular-season games per year. Given his extensive injury history, a three-year offer from the Wizards can be regarded as a solid package. No one can guarantee whether Davis will still be capable of competing in the NBA at age 38.
At this stage, the stance of the Wizards front office is crystal clear. The franchise is determined to keep Anthony Davis as its cornerstone for roster building.
