R Ashwin was recently seen using a white ball to
practise in the NCA nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. In
addition, he has a 50-over match in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA)’s
regional tournament slated for Tuesday in Chennai. Despite being reactivated
for the forthcoming three-match series against Australia and being recalled to
the India ODI team, the seasoned spinner is tirelessly prepared for any
conceivable outcomes.
The one-day league for the VAP Trophy is currently
taking place in Chennai. Ashwin, 37, is scheduled to play for Take Solution
MRPA vs Young Stars at the SSN College Ground. Ashwin has played for his
country in 113 ODIs, including the 2011 World Cup winning campaign. A few weeks
earlier, he took part in a number of three-day matches within the neighbourhood
league.
A TNCA official stated, “He wants to spend some
time on the ground, and a 50-over game will provide him with that opportunity.
He recently visited the NCA for routine maintenance work on his body and to
hone his skills under the guidance of spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule. He’s
determined to prepare himself comprehensively for any and all challenges.”
Rohit Sharma was questioned about whether he was
concerned that R Ashwin had only played two ODIs in the previous six years
during a press conference that followed the release of the India selection for
the Australia series. The experienced off-spinner’s extensive experience, the
captain said, allayed any worries about his sparse playing time in the ODIs.
Ashwin is motivated to repay the confidence the captain, selectors, and team
management have shown in him. He made his most recent ODI appearance in January
2022 against South Africa, and in 111 ODI innings, he has taken 151 wickets.
The team has been instructed to convene in Chandigarh
on September 20 in preparation for the first ODI, scheduled for September 22.
Ashwin will have to fly to Mohali immediately after the game.
