(SabaSports) In an interview with UEFA, Atalanta coach Gasperini talked about winning the Europa League and the upcoming European Super Cup. It has been a long journey and from the first game in Lisbon we showed strength and did our best. It’s a high level tournament and to win it that way was a huge achievement for us.
We were the underdogs against Liverpool and maybe at the beginning against Sporting Lisbon. Everyone thought they would win, but in the end we won. I think being the underdog in a way brings out the best in us.
I don’t know if we were one of the best teams, but we did play well. We are definitely one of the best teams in the competition, partly because of our results: 3-0 against Marseille, 3-0 against Liverpool and 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen. In the Europa League, we showed what we are capable of, and it is satisfying that such a tournament is full of uncertainty and one event can make a difference, but there is a general feeling that we deserve to win the trophy.
