[Saba Sports News] India all-rounder Axar Patel, who had a nice outing with the bat in the last match against Bangladesh, is now likely to be ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka, scheduled on September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
In the match against Bangladesh, Axar appeared to be in pain after ball hit his wrist twice. In a PTI report, it was also mentioned that there is an issue with his hamstring too.
However, the BCCI has not yet provided clarification on the cause and extent of Axar’s injury, but he will likely warm the bench in the upcoming match, if reports are to be believed.
The 29-year-old is also a part of India’s ODI World Cup 2023 and it too remains to be seen that if the injury is serious enough to rule him out of the global event.
Washington Sundar, who last played an ODI match in January 2023, has been called up as Axar’s replacement and will join the team by Saturday. Up until today, he was training at the NCA in Bangalore to prepare for the nearing Asian Games.
Axar’s performance with the ball versus Bangladesh was mediocre as he conceded 47 runs in 9 overs and took the wicket of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. However, with the bat, he showed fight until the end, scoring 42 runs off 34 balls, including three fours and two sixes, but failed to lead the team to victory.
