(SabaSports) According to Tagessport, Joao Cancelo will have to overcome two obstacles if he wants to move to Barcelona this summer. Barcelona hope to bring Cancello on loan, with a possible non-mandatory buyout option attached. However, Barcelona’s salary cap has been reached and the club cannot afford Cancello’s full salary, while City are unwilling to help ease the burden.
It is reported that Cancello will have to take a cut in his salary, as he did last summer, in order to facilitate a move to the Nou Camp. In addition to the salary issue, Barcelona are not willing to pay the loan fee, which is the focus of the current discussions between the two sides.
City and the player will make a decision in the final stages, but all indications are that the deal is expected to go through as long as Barcelona can complete the necessary procedures and register Cancello. The arrival of the Portuguese defender will greatly enhance Barca’s defensive depth.
