(SabaSports) Chelsea brought in 12 new players over the summer, with the current number of on-loan players taking the first-team squad to 56 and, according to the BBC, with the imminent arrival of Neto and Omorodion, the squad includes eight keepers, seven full-backs, nine centre-backs, 15 midfields, nine wingers and eight centre-forwards.

However, by the end of the summer window, Chelsea can only submit a 25-man list, which must contain eight “hukoji” players (i.e. under-21s who have spent three years at an English club’s academy), with no restriction on Under-21s. Media have pointed out that Chelsea’s squad was so bloated under Potter that at one point the dressing room numbered more than 40, forcing some players to sit on the floor during meetings and even change their training uniforms in the corridors.
Despite a number of players already out on loan, Chelsea will need to purge at least 14 players this summer to tackle the problem of an oversized squad.
