When asked again about Sancho, Erik ten Hag said: “I have said that the team is strong and motivated and has a very good momentum to go into the game. Strict standards are what the club is asking me to do because before last season the club didn’t have a good culture, so to set high standards, that’s what I did in the past and it’s my job to control those standards. Of course, just because a person makes a mistake doesn’t mean they’re the problem, and it takes a whole process to get to some kind of result about strict boundaries. Whether it’s the coaching staff, the players or anyone else, you have to be firm and decisive when transgressions occur.”
