[Saba Sports News] According to the Shams, forward Kevin Knox has signed a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, but it’s a training camp deal and Knox is competing for a retention spot. The Warriors currently have 20 players on their roster, 14 on the regular roster, three on two-way contracts and three on training camp contracts.

Knox, the No. 9 pick in the 2018 first round, is entering his seventh NBA season. He averaged 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.1 minutes in 31 games last season for the Detroit Pistons, shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range. So far, he has played for the New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers and Pistons.
In this year’s summer league, Knox played in four games for the Warriors, and averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Especially in the Summer League semifinals against the Miami Heat, he showed outstanding offensive ability, 31 points and 11 rebounds.
The Warriors didn’t make the playoffs last season and parted ways with Klay Thompson in the offseason. Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Luka Garza were brought in to try to breathe new life into the team. Knox doesn’t have the same impact as those three, but if he can perform well in training camp and preseason and earn a spot, there’s still hope for improved wing depth.
