(sabasports report)Manchester United have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to appoint Dan Ashworth as The club’s sporting director, reports The Athletic.

Ashworth’s deal has been delayed by the two clubs’ failure to agree compensation fees. But after more than four months on gardening leave, Ashworth’s transfer has now been approved.
Ashworth, 53, is expected to take up a role in United’s new structure immediately. The Athletic previously said Ashworth had intended to take Newcastle to an arbitration tribunal to facilitate his move, with United supporting his request and promising to pay his legal costs.
In his new role at United, Ashworth will have overall responsibility for the club’s football performance, recruitment and operations, with technical director Jason Wilcox reporting to him. Mr Ashworth will report to Sir Dave Brailsford, who has been commissioned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe to conduct a review of United’s football operations.
Ashworth will be Ratcliffe’s latest appointment. Omar Berrada is set to arrive as chief executive from Manchester City later this month, while Wilcox’s role as technical director was confirmed in April.
