[Saba Sports News] All the uncertainty around Australia’s World Cup squad has finally ended as Marnus Labuschagne will now get to feature in the tournament in place of injured Ashton Agar.
Labuschagne, who was earlier left of the squad due to his below average returns in ODI cricket, proved his mettle in the South Africa series, scoring an 80 and a hundred there.
He continued his good form versus India as he recorded a fifty in final fixture before the World Cup.
Agar had suffered a calf injury that ruled him out of the South Africa as well as the India series. Reports of him not being fully fit yet came out to be true as Australia included Labuschagne at his expense.
Agar’s exclusion have left Australia with only one frontline spinner in the form of Adam Zampa. Although, they have someone like Glenn Maxwell, who can chip in with his off-spin.
It was also expected that Travis Head, who fractured his thumb in South Africa, would be forced to sit out of the squad as he is yet to recover from the injury. However, surprisingly, he has been retained.
