[Saba Sports News] Meralco handed their rivals a less-than-friendly welcome with a 97-85 win over newcomers Macau in the second season of the East Asian Super League (EASL). The match took place Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.

Chris Newsome had 18 points and six assists for Meralco, while outside aid Allen Durham posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to help the home team come back from the opening game of the home-and-away tournament.
Earlier, San Miguel lost 81-87 to Suwon KT Sonicboom of the Korean Basketball League.
Meralco’s other foreign addition, DJ Kennedy, was equally impressive, Posting 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in his debut. Chris Banchero added 14 points, making him the only Meralco player to score in double figures.
Ange Kouame, a naturalized player returning from injury, had nine points and nine rebounds for Meralco, which led by as many as 19 points.
