[Saba Sports News] The match moved at a rapid pace post lunch on Day 2 as South Africa hammered 145 runs in the 33 overs bowled in the second session.
Dean Elgar, who is playing is final international series, smashed his 14th Test ton, giving the hosts a massive advantage. Despite not being a naturally attacking batter, Elgar completed the century in just 140 deliveries, not allowing the Indian bowlers any breathing space at all.
He was supported by debutant David Bedingham, who showed great composure. The 29-year-old did not spare most of the bad deliveries, ensuring that South Africa maintained a healthy scoring-rate from the other end as well.
In between, Jasprit Bumrah took two important wickets in quick succession, dismissing Tony de Zorzi (28) and Keegan Petersen (2). Apart from this, India searched for a wicket throughout as Elgar and Bedingham stitched an 81-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
The Proteas go to tea with the score reading 194/3. They are 51 runs behind India’s first-innings total. Elgar and Bedingham are batting on 115 and 32 runs respectively.
