World Cup: Haiti vs Scotland
Kickoff Time: 2026-6-14 9:00 (HKT)
After a 52-year hiatus, Haiti have qualified for the FIFA World Cup once again, marking only their second appearance in the tournament’s history. Notably, most of Haiti’s players are naturalized footballers. Among the 23-man squad for the preceding World Cup qualifiers, 15 were naturalized players. Wilson Isidor, who plays for Sunderland in the English Premier League, is Haiti’s star player and the leader of their attacking line. Blessed with blistering pace and superb dribbling skills, he excels at breaking down opponents down the flanks and creating goalscoring opportunities through central runs. He can operate effectively as a solo winger and also link up with teammates to execute wide-to-centre combinations. Haiti adopt a 4-4-2 formation built around defensive counter-attacks. Defensively, they rely on a compact defensive block to narrow the opponents’ attacking space, while their attacking play largely hinges on the individual brilliance of key players. Meanwhile, domestic issues and concerns over their high number of naturalized players have cast doubts over the team’s tactical cohesion and unity.
After a 28-year wait, Scotland are back on the World Cup stage. Under manager Steve Clarke, Scotland have established a clear tactical framework. Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney anchor the defence, Scott McTominay and John McGinn control the midfield, while attacking spots are awarded to players in the best form on matchdays. In Clarke’s system, Robertson operates as a left wing-back and Tierney lines up as a left central defender. The pair create a natural numerical advantage on the left flank, leaving the opposition’s right-back outnumbered. Thanks to these two left-sided defenders, Scotland have developed a well-defined attacking pattern down the left. Robertson drifts wide to draw defenders out of position, while Tierney pushes infield into the half-space to receive passes from McTominay or McGinn. Robertson then delivers crosses from the byline, allowing teammates arriving from the far side to surge into the box and score with poacher’s finishes.
Scotland are clearly superior to Haiti in terms of overall squad strength. They also boast far better tactical understanding and more polished technical ability. All things considered, the stronger Scottish side are favourites to claim all three points in their opening group-stage match.
