(SabaSports) Spain have made history by beating England 2-1 in the European Championship final to win their fourth European Championship, beating Germany’s record of three. Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain and England relied on substitute Cole Palmer to equalize with a long-range effort. However, Mikel Oyarzabal, also a substitute, scored the winner just before the end of the game to seal the victory for Spain.
Spain have previously reached four European Cup finals and won the title three times – in 1964, 2008 and 2012. The win brought their European Cup tally to four. England, by contrast, have reached two successive European Cup finals, their only two previous finals, finishing second in 2020.
In the last six meetings between the two teams, Spain has won three, drawn one and lost two, scoring 10 goals and conceding seven. In the final, Spain’s main defenders Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand returned to the starting lineup after suspensions, Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Navas returned to the bench. For England, the only starting change was Luke Shaw replacing Kieran Trippier.
