Meralco clung tenacidly to their position at the top of Group A alongside TNT Tropang Giga despite a number of injuries to their key players.
Meralco won for the third time in four matches, beating NorthPort 109-99 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday night. Despite the absence of key players Allein Maliksi, Raymond Almazan and Aaron Black through injuries, Substitutes Norbert Torres and Raymar Jose also failed to come on as Meralco soldiered on.
Cliff Hodge, who played in the North Harbor game but was limited to seven minutes because of back discomfort, did not score but added three rebounds and an assist.
“Right now we are really a team with injuries, without Allen, without AB, without Raymond and without Cliff, we just have to find a way to win,” coach Luigi Trillo said.
