(SabaSports) The United States won its eighth consecutive Olympic title in the women’s basketball final at the 2024 Paris Games, edging France 67-66. The victory not only gave the U.S. women’s basketball team their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal, but also extended their winning streak at the Olympics to a stunning 61. The last time the U.S. women’s basketball team lost at the Olympics was 32 years ago, in the semifinals of the 1992 Barcelona Games. At that time, the United States women’s basketball team lost 73-79 to the CIS team, and ultimately won the bronze medal.

The CIS team is a union formed by the countries after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union, and its women’s basketball team is the predecessor of the powerful Soviet Union. Since that loss, the U.S. women’s basketball team has a winning record at the Olympics. However, in tonight’s game against France, they only narrowly won by one point, once again proving their dominance in international basketball.
