[Saba Sports News] According to various media reports, the final of the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled for September 17 is likely to be moved from its original venue, the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, to the Pallekele International Stadium located in Kandy.
Colombo, the capital of the host country Sri Lanka, has been experiencing rain in recent times, and the weather forecast on the day of the final is also not promising.
Notably, there were reports suggesting that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) approved a proposal just before the start of the Super Four stage to relocate all matches, including the final, from Colombo to Hambantota, known for its drier climate. However, it was turned down by Indian and Pakistani players, citing a lack of facilities at the Hambantota venue.
Furthermore, weather reports suggest that there will be persistent rain throughout the week, which could not only impact the final but also the remaining two Super Four matches: Pakistan versus Sri Lanka on September 14 and India versus Bangladesh on September 15.
So far, rain has already impacted three matches in the ongoing Asia Cup. The India versus Pakistan clash on September 2 was completely washed out, the India versus Nepal clash on September 4 was shortened due to rain, and the Super Four match between India and Pakistan also experienced heavy rain showers throughout the game, including the reserve day.
