[Saba Sports News] De’Anthony Melton will undergo surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and is expected to be out for the season, the Warriors announced.

According to the collective bargaining agreement, the Warriors will be able to claim a $6.4 million (half of his salary) injury exception because Melton is out for the season. However, since the Warriors did a sign-and-trade in the offseason (the Klay Thompson mega-deal), it’s the hard salary cap that applies. They are only 534,000 away from the hard cap, which means that with no roster changes, the Warriors can only use 534,000 in this particular case.
