[Saba Sports News] India head coach Rahul Dravid threw his weight behind Suryakumar Yadav, who is the middle of a horrible ODI run. Dravid backed the number one T20I batter and expressed his faith on him, saying that he could attain a similar touch in the ODIs as well.
India are backing Suryakumar Yadav to the hilt, who despite averaging 23.41 after playing 27 ODIs, continues to feature in the one-dayers.
While it was believed that Asia Cup 2023 could be a final chance for Suryakumar, it was not as the right-hander made it to the squad for the Australia ODI series even after failing in yet another match, versus Bangladesh.
Although there were doubts on the 33-year-old’s place in the India ODI World Cup squad, Dravid brushed those aside, asserting that the team management has got his back.
“I don’t think he needs to worry about the 27th (deadline). We have picked our team for the World Cup. Surya is in it. We made that decision and we back him because of the quality and ability that we have seen. Yes we have seen it only in T20 cricket, but we know the kind of impact he can make batting at No.6. There’s total clarity that we are behind him,” Dravid was quoted as saying in a press conference on Thursday.
Notably, India will collide with Australia in the first ODI of the series on September 22 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
