[Saba Sports News] Joel Embiid is set to miss upcoming games due to a new injury concern. As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, a Philadelphia 76ers official confirmed that Embiid will be absent from Thursday’s game against the Utah Jazz, staying back in Philadelphia for further evaluation on his injured left knee. Embiid will not accompany the team on their current road trip, which concludes with the Utah game.
This decision, while cautious, does not necessarily signal a severe issue, as the team might be taking precautionary measures. Embiid had been previously sidelined with a knee injury during part of this road trip. The injury was aggravated Tuesday when Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga collided with his leg.
This development also has implications for Embiid’s chances in the MVP race. According to NBA award voting rules, he can only miss four more games this season to remain eligible for the MVP award.
Embiid’s potential return could be as soon as Saturday, when the 76ers are scheduled to play the Brooklyn Nets at home.
