[Saba Sports News] Recently, Sol Sorsky, a 90-year-old man and the oldest participant in walking football organised by the LFC Foundation, was invited to visit the club’s training ground. Alexis Mac Allister, the Argentine midfielder, presented him with a signed shirt. A lifelong Liverpool fan, Sorsky spoke with Chris Kirkland, a community ambassador for the LFC Foundation, at the training facility. Mac Allister then made an appearance, took the time to hear Sorsky’s story, and handed him a signed jersey. For Sorsky, taking part in the weekly walking football sessions – funded by the Premier League Players’ Benevolent Fund – is about more than just staying active. Living alone, the programme serves as a vital source of social interaction and routine, helping him stay connected and avoid social isolation, which is a key focus of the LFC Foundation’s community work.
The editor believes that walking football provides a warm and inclusive environment where participants can enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of the sport at their own pace. Sol Sorsky’s story demonstrates how it helps build friendships, boost confidence and foster a sense of belonging beyond the pitch.
