[Saba Sports News] Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers endorsed India’s call to bring back Sanju Samson in the T20I squad for the three-match versus Afghanistan, starting January 11.
De Villiers expressed his admiration for Samson, stating that he is a huge fan of the Rajasthan Royals captain.
Samson was out of India’s T20I scheme of things. However, he scored a match-winning hundred in the ODI series-decider against South Africa, prompting the selectors to pick him in place of Ishan Kishan, who made himself unavailable for the series, as revealed by head coach Rahul Dravid.
“I have been a huge fan of Sanju Samson. I think he is a wonderful player. He has been an incredible performer for the Rajasthan Royals for many years. It is great to see him back in the squad,” de Villiers said as quoted on his YouTube channel.
Although Samson has been named in the squad, his place in the playing XI is not confirmed. He will fighting for the wicket-keeper’s spot for which Jitesh Sharma is also a contender.
The first T20I is scheduled to take place in Mohali on January 11.
