[Saba Sports News] Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa has delivered a blow to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by opting out of the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Zampa, who was a vital cog in the Royals’ bowling attack last year, has reportedly pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
Zampa’s decision came as a surprise, especially considering his retention by the Royals ahead of the player auction. His absence creates a void in the Royals’ spin department, where he was expected to partner with established spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
While official reasons remain personal, reports suggest Zampa’s decision might be linked to managing his workload. He has participated in a busy international schedule in recent months, including the Big Bash League (BBL) for Melbourne Stars, followed by white-ball series against West Indies and New Zealand. With the T20 World Cup scheduled for June 2024, prioritizing rest and managing his physical condition could be a key factor.
The Royals have been quick to react to Zampa’s withdrawal. They have signed Tanush Kotian, a young off-spinner who impressed in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. Kotian, known for his all-round abilities, was picked up by the Royals for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Zampa’s absence will undoubtedly affect the Royals’ spin attack. His leg-spin bowling provided variety and wicket-taking opportunities, complementing the experience of Ashwin and Chahal. The Royals will need Kotian to step up and adapt quickly to the high-pressure environment of the IPL.
