[Saba Sports News] Indonesian men’s doubles badminton star Mohammad Ahsan announced his retirement date via his personal social media account. Ahsan has chosen to retire at the same time as his partner Hendra Setiawan, coinciding with the 2025 Indonesia Masters. In a post with accompanying images, Ahsan climbed a ladder to hang up his racket and shoes, symbolizing his determination to “hang up” his career. Information shows that Ahsan, born on September 7, 1987, is three years younger than Hendra, but in comparison, Ahsan’s achievements are slightly less impressive. Throughout his career, Ahsan has primarily partnered with three players, but it was only with Hendra that he reached the pinnacle of his career, winning the World Championships three times in 2013, 2015, and 2019, and was also a member of the 2020 Thomas Cup winning team. In 2018, after turning 30, Ahsan reunited with Hendra in hopes of winning an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo. However, they returned empty-handed from the Tokyo Olympics, losing to the pair of Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin in the semifinals and then to Aaron Chia Teng Fong/Soh Wooi Yik in the bronze medal match, leaving Ahsan with regrets about his Olympic performance.
