[Saba Sports News] According to GPBlog, Fernando Alonso has questioned the consistency of the FIA in enforcing track limits rules. This follows the first lap of the F1 Mexican Grand Prix, where several drivers ran wide at several corners seemingly without consequence and even gained positions. The Aston Martin driver made a strong start from the midfield but lost positions in the first complex of corners at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as rivals cut the circuit. Reflecting on the incident after retiring, Alonso stated: “I gained two positions at the start, but then lost four because I took the normal line. Some people completely missed Turn 2, Turn 3, went full throttle, and then they were three car lengths ahead of me. We were side-by-side entering the corner, but at the exit of Turn 3, they were four car lengths ahead. I thought maybe something would be done, but just like running wide at the first corner in Austin, it doesn’t seem to be an issue.” Although Alonso’s remarks reflect his disappointment with the race stewarding, he also acknowledged that this incident did not significantly impact his race, as the Aston Martin team struggled with both speed and reliability throughout Sunday’s event.
