[Saba Sports News] Recently, Xabi Alonso, coach of Bayer Leverkusen, announced at a press conference that he will leave his post this summer. Alonso stated: “The club and I have reached an agreement that the last two matches will be my farewell as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen!” According to German media reports, Alonso’s signing with Real Madrid is in its final stages, and he is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid’s manager. Reports say that Alonso informed the players of his departure during training before the match. Alonso, now 43 years old, played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and other top teams during his playing career. Alonso officially became Bayer Leverkusen’s first-team coach in October 2022 and led the team since then. During his tenure at Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso led the team to win one Bundesliga title, one DFB-Pokal title, and one German Super Cup. Last season, Bayer Leverkusen finished the Bundesliga 34-match season undefeated with 28 wins and 6 draws, ultimately claiming the championship, which marked their first-ever Bundesliga title in club history.
