[Saba Sports News] The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is investigating the Korea Badminton Association for alleged mismanagement of players. According to current regulations, national team players must wear uniforms and equipment designated by the association during training or international competitions, and players are not allowed to choose their own shoes or rackets, which severely affects their performance. Reports from South Korea indicate that among the events in the Olympics and Asian Games, only badminton and boxing have such regulations. During a hearing held in the National Assembly this week, Min Hyung-bae, a member of the Democratic Party, presented a slide to the president of the Korea Badminton Association showing An Se-young’s blistered feet. An Se–young had previously stated that wearing shoes provided by sponsors made her uncomfortable. Member Min expressed anger, stating that this happened after wearing the sponsor’s shoes and questioned why officials from the badminton association turned a blind eye. In response, the president of the Korea Badminton Association stated that they cannot unilaterally change the rules due to their relationship with sponsors but promised to take action. After the Paris Olympics, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will investigate the Korea Badminton Association, and so far, evidence has been found of inconsistent funding, discriminatory practices within commercial alliances, and officials accepting kickbacks in violation of their own policies.
