[Saba Sports News] Malaysian star Goh V Shem, who won the men’s doubles silver medal at the Rio Olympics, announced a partnership with South Korean player Choi Sol Gyu to continue their professional careers on the international stage. Choi Sol Gyu has won multiple men’s and mixed doubles championships and previously partnered with Kim Wonho to win the men’s doubles silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Interestingly, Goh V Shem’s last victory was at the 2019 Taipei Open, where he and his partner Tan Wee Kiong defeated Choi Sol Gyu and Seo Seung Jae in the final. Goh V Shem and Choi Sol Gyu have registered for the Malaysian Open badminton tournament in January next year; if all goes well, this will be their first competition together. Their partnership reportedly began at the Macau Open in September, where Choi Sol Gyu tested several Felet rackets and sought help from sponsors to find a new partner. The sponsors connected him with Goh V Shem, believing they could be a championship-winning duo. After leaving the Malaysian national team, Tan Wee Kiong partnered with Goh V Shem until 2021, after which Goh V Shem experimented with different partners, including Goh Soon Huat, Lim Khim Wah, and Boon Xin Yuan. Choi Sol Gyu is his first foreign partner. Goh V Shem revealed that Choi Sol Gyu speaks basic English, so communication between them would not be an issue. Most importantly, they have developed good chemistry on the court.
