[Saba Sports News] Many fans had the same reaction when Anthony Davis exited his Dallas Mavericks debut in the second half Saturday with a non-contact injury—*they saw it coming.*
Davis went down with what the Mavericks labeled a lower-body injury late in the third quarter against the Houston Rockets.
After appearing to tweak something without contact, he did not return for the fourth. Up until that point, Davis had been dominant, racking up 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks—briefly making Mavs fans forget about their lingering frustration over the Luka Doncic trade.
But for many, Davis’ injury was as predictable as it was unfortunate. Social media was flooded with jokes about how he couldn’t even make it through one full game in Dallas without getting hurt.
There’s no questioning Davis’ talent, but his durability has been a major concern throughout his career. He hadn’t played since Jan. 28 due to an abdominal injury, and the fact that Dallas traded a 25-year-old Doncic for an injury-prone 31-year-old was one of the biggest criticisms of the deal.
The Mavericks managed to pull off the win, but the real question now is how long they might be without Davis.
