[Saba Sports News] Social media often draws comparisons between Anthony Edwards and Michael Jordan, and it seems Edwards is starting to embrace the connection.
During Saturday’s broadcast of the Minnesota Timberwolves-Denver Nuggets game, ESPN’s Mark Jones shared an intriguing tidbit about Edwards.
Jones revealed that the Timberwolves star recently sought advice from the NBA legend on handling double teams.
“I was told by someone in his circle that three weeks ago [Edwards] reached out to Michael Jordan for tips on dealing with the doubles and traps he’s been facing,” Jones said. “He’s been extremely frustrated up until recently.”
As a two-time All-Star, Edwards has had to fight hard for his points this season. Opposing teams frequently throw double teams and traps at him, forcing Edwards to adapt.
With Mike Conley’s decline, Kyle Anderson’s departure, and the trade of Karl-Anthony Towns, Edwards has taken on more ball-handling duties in a system with diminished floor spacing—far from his ideal role.
While Jordan, now 61, may have some limitations in his advice due to his retirement over two decades ago and the pre-zone defense era he played in, his perspective as an all-time great could still be invaluable.
At the very least, Edwards is showing respect for Jordan, something that’s becoming rarer among today’s 20-something players.
