[Saba Sports News] Recently, Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur stated that Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli had proactively apologized to him for the collision in Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix. The incident caused Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc to spin into the wall. After Leclerc completed his pit stop, he emerged ahead of Antonelli. The latter attempted an overtake on the inside of a narrow corner but made contact with the rear wheel of the Ferrari, sending Leclerc out of control into the barrier. Leclerc, who was originally in contention for a podium finish, could only watch the remainder of the race from the sand traps. Vasseur said: “He specifically came to see Charles to apologize. Although Charles wasn’t there at the time, he proactively apologized to me. I truly appreciate this attitude. Overtaking at Zandvoort is inherently difficult, which means drivers must take risks. He chose to take a risk but paid the price with a mistake.” The spot where Leclerc hit the wall was almost identical to where his teammate Lewis Hamilton had an accident earlier – Hamilton lost control and slid off the track in the corner when rain made the surface slippery. This was the first time since both cars were disqualified at the Chinese Grand Prix in March that Ferrari failed to score any points.
