[Saba Sports News] The match-fixing case in the Turkish league that previously shook the football world garnered significant attention, leading to punishments for over a hundred referees. Although 67 of these referees subsequently filed appeals, their appeals were ultimately rejected due to involvement in football match gambling. The local arbitration committee stated: “The actions of these referees seriously violated the integrity principles of football and damaged the reputation of Turkish football. The basis for the punishment is solid, and the procedure is legal.” We believe that referees, as guardians of fair play, engaging in gambling activities severely violates the integrity principles of football, damaging the sport’s reputation and public trust. The Turkish Football Federation not only launched investigations into the involved players but also plans to promote comprehensive reforms in the referee selection and training system, aiming to eradicate systemic issues and rebuild public trust in domestic football. International football-related bodies have also taken note of the incident and requested detailed reports. We believe this incident exposes vulnerabilities in the supervision of practitioners and the development of professional ethics within the local football sphere, while also reflecting the adverse infiltration of gambling activities into the football industry.
