Sahan Arachchige is slated to serve as the team’s
captain since Sri Lanka has announced a young squad for the 2023 Asian Games,
which is essentially a Sri Lanka A side.
Ashen Bandara, who has 11 white-ball games under his
belt, is at the top of the list among those with international caps. Arachchige
has participated in two ODIs, while Nuwanidu Fernando and Nuwan Thushara have
each played four games.
Fans may not be wholly unfamiliar with some of these
names because the majority of the team has participated in the Lanka Premier
League (LPL), but this will be a fantastic chance to examine them over a longer
length of time.
The batters will likely generate the most interest, as
players like Lasith Croospulle, Shevon Daniel, Fernando, and Arachchige made
waves during the most recent LPL season.
For his 232 runs at an average of 33.14, Croospulle
made the LPL 2023 team of the tournament. Daniel also had some thrilling cameos
to start the innings. He also has a first-class double tonne under his belt at
the age of 19.
Fernando, on the other hand, holds the distinction of
having played one of the most significant innings in the LPL last year, when he
scored a 42-ball 63 on a surface that had proven difficult for all other
batters. He scored an unbroken 39-ball 56 versus Dambulla Aura this year as
well, but his team was unable to cross the finish line. Arachchige has
performed well in recent matches for the Sri Lanka A team, particularly by
scoring two century against the England Lions earlier this year, despite having
a subdued LPL.
Sri Lanka have a direct entry into the Asian Games
quarter-finals and play their first game on October 4. All matches will be in
the T20 format.
