[Saba Sports News] In the ongoing Test series, Australia and the West Indies locked horns in the second match starting January 25 at the Brisbane Cricket Ground. The West Indies first set a score of 311 in their opening innings, while Australia declared at 289 in their first innings.
During the second innings, the West Indies couldn’t mirror their earlier batting success. Kirk McKenzie emerged as the top scorer with 41 runs. Amidst efforts to steady their innings, young Shamar Joseph faced Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc. Unfortunately, Joseph was forced to retire hurt after facing a powerful yorker from Starc, having scored just three runs.
This setback contributed to the West Indies being all out for 193, setting a 216-run target for Australia. The Australian innings began with Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja, though Khawaja was dismissed for 10 runs and Marnus Labuschagne followed for five.
Facing a manageable target, Australia aims to wrap up the game on Day 4. A victory in this match would secure the series win for Pat Cummins’ team, allowing them to shift focus to the upcoming limited-overs matches. The teams are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is, with the first ODI on February 2 and the first T20I on February 9.
