[Saba Sports News] Muhammad Hurraira replaced Saim Ayub in Pakistan’s XI for the first Test against the West Indies in Multan.
Known for his stellar domestic cricket record, the 22-year-old batter earned his spot in the team. Pakistan skipper Shan Masood won the toss and opted to bat first at Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday, January 17.
Babar Azam had the honor of presenting Hurraira with his Test cap, offering words of encouragement.
“Many congratulations. It’s an honor for me to present this Test cap. It’s important for Pakistan and for you. My wish is that, just as you’ve always seized opportunities in your career, you do the same today and make a strong debut,” Babar said.
Hurraira first shone in the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup, playing a pivotal role with a match-winning 64 in the quarter-final against Afghanistan. I
n 2023, he was part of the squad for the Sri Lanka series but didn’t play. However, he reinforced his credentials in July 2024 with a double-century for Pakistan A in a first-class match. Across his first-class career, Hurraira has amassed over 3,400 runs at an impressive average of 56.24.
Shan Masood, after winning the toss, emphasized the team’s focus on becoming dominant at home and expressed confidence in Hurraira.
“We’re batting first, considering the conditions. We aim to be a tough side to beat at home. Hurraira is making his debut, and we fully back him. We’re looking to replicate our performances from the England series,” Masood said.
With Hurraira’s solid track record and the support of senior players, expectations are high for his debut performance.
