[Saba Sports News] In a thrilling match on September 14, Pakistan’s Babar Azam was left dejected as his team lost to defending champions Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka advanced to the final, set for Sunday, September 17, against India at the same venue.
The match came down to the wire, with only two runs needed off the final ball. Pakistan relied on debutant Zaman Khan, who hadn’t been in the squad until recently, to secure victory. However, Zaman bowled a slower length ball onto the pads, and Charith Asalanka clipped it for a boundary to send Sri Lanka to the final.
Babar expressed displeasure with the delivery and field setup, as there were no fielders on the leg side. Zaman was visibly emotional as well. Asalanka’s unbeaten 49 and Kusal Mendis’ aggressive 91 earned him the Player of the Match award.
Sri Lanka will defend their title against India in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Meanwhile, India plays Bangladesh in the final Super Four fixture on Friday, September 15, before the ultimate showdown.
