[Saba Sports News] The High Court of Catalonia has
recently ruled that Barcelona’s compensation for the dismissal of Matheus
Fernandes will be reduced from 7.7 million euros to 731,000 euros. Barcelona
had sent a dismissal letter to the Brazilian midfielder, Matheus Fernandes, on
June 29, 2021, unilaterally terminating his contract. However, Fernandes’
original contract with Barcelona was set to expire in June 2025. In January
2023, a local court in Barcelona ordered the club to pay 7.7 million euros as
compensation to the player. Barcelona immediately appealed this decision to the
High Court of Catalonia. The Catalan court reviewed the information provided by
the club and concluded that Barcelona had unlawfully terminated the player’s
contract. However, they determined that the appropriate compensation should
only cover two months’ salary. As a result, the compensation amount was
significantly reduced from the initial 7.7 million euros to 731,000 euros.
