[Saba Sports News] Recently, former England star David Beckham was officially conferred the title of Knight Commander by King Charles III of the United Kingdom in recognition of his contributions to sports and charity work. In an interview, Beckham said, “I grew up in East London, where my parents and grandparents were very patriotic and proud to be British; I never thought I’d receive such an honor. Representing my country and serving as captain was the greatest honor of my career and a literal realization of a childhood dream. I am fortunate to represent Britain globally and collaborate with outstanding organizations that support disadvantaged communities and inspire future generations. It is truly lucky to do this job, which brings me immense fulfillment, and receiving this recognition makes me deeply grateful. This news requires time to process, and at this moment, I feel incredibly proud and delighted to share this emotionally charged moment with my family.” As early as 2010, Beckham received a nomination for knighthood, but it was rejected due to involvement in a tax avoidance scandal by the tax authorities, which the honors committee subsequently vetoed. In 2021, the tax authorities clarified Beckham’s innocence, paving the way for him to receive this honor.
