[Saba Sports News] Before the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League final, the teams Fortune Barishal and Comilla Victorians held a minute’s silence for the victims of a devastating fire in Dhaka on February 29, where at least 46 people died following an incident at the Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a quick recovery for the injured.
The BCB emphasized their solidarity with those affected, acknowledging the efforts of medical and emergency personnel aiding the survivors. Barishal’s captain, Tamim Iqbal, also paid tribute and emphasized the need for preventive measures to avoid future tragedies.
In the final match held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Barishal, after winning the toss, chose to field first. They managed to restrict Comilla Victorians to a challenging position but faced a comeback from the Victorians’ lower-order batsmen.
With a solid bowling performance behind them, Barishal looked poised to compete for the championship in the league’s tenth edition.
