[Saba Sports News] After a strong start to the season, the Golden State Warriors have seen their fortunes take a sharp downturn.
Over the past few months, the team has struggled significantly, and Monday night may have marked a new low point.
Despite an impressive performance from Stephen Curry, the Warriors fell just short of a road win, losing 104-101 to the Toronto Raptors—a team near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
The loss highlighted the Warriors’ current struggles, as even Curry’s 26 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists couldn’t lift them to victory.
In the post-game interview, Curry made headlines with his candid and unconventional remarks about the team’s future.
Instead of pushing for a “desperate” trade to salvage the season, Curry emphasized the importance of long-term stability over short-term gains, a sentiment rarely expressed by star players during difficult stretches.
Curry’s comments took fans and analysts by surprise, including ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who shared his reaction on *NBA Today*.
“I’ve never heard an interview like this from a player in midseason,” said Windhorst.
“It sounds like Steph Curry is at the acceptance stage of loss. My belief would be that he’s communicated this perspective to the front office—urging them not to make desperate moves to fix the team at the cost of its future. That’s so unusual for a star player to say.”
Windhorst speculated that the Warriors, who had been exploring trades for a star player since last summer, might take Curry’s words to heart and shift their approach. Instead of making a bold move to improve the roster, the team could focus on cost-saving trades and longer-term planning.
With the loss to the Raptors, the Warriors fell below .500 at 19-20, dropping to 12th place in the Western Conference.
Having won only four of their last 10 games, Golden State now faces the possibility of battling for a play-in spot for the remainder of the season. Whether or not the front office heeds Curry’s advice, the Warriors have an uphill battle ahead.
