[Saba Sports News] Bronny James’ NBA hopes took a significant step forward on Monday ahead of the NBA combine. He has been medically cleared to play by the league’s Fitness to Play panel, according to multiple reports. This decision comes nine months after James underwent a procedure to repair a congenital heart defect.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that James is expected to remain in the draft and not return to college.
Last July, James had a major health scare when he collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest. After receiving medical clearance, he played for USC, and the heart issue now appears to be behind him.
His decision to stay in the draft might surprise some teams that expected him to return to school. As a freshman, he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game with USC.
Now, the question is if and where James will be drafted, with particular attention on the Los Angeles Lakers, who might pair him with his father. However, LeBron may not be as eager to play with his son as previously believed.
