Sports News] According to reports from German media, Bundesliga fans will
observe 12 minutes of silence during the upcoming round of matches as a form of
protest against the new broadcast agreement. Fan organizations associated with
clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have announced their intention
to carry out this action in the stands during the weekend’s Bundesliga games.
Fans have been expressing their concerns and discontent through various means,
including banners, for several months. They argue that the new broadcast deal
could potentially expose the German Football League to outside influences and
prioritize television viewers’ interests over those of live fans. Supporters
believe that the vibrant atmosphere and high attendance in Bundesliga matches
are their unique assets. The catalyst for this protest was the Bundesliga’s
decision to involve external investors and allow an investment company to
acquire a portion of the league’s future broadcast sales, which would provide a
one-time financial boost. This move has faced strong opposition from many fans
who have long supported the “50+1” rule, which promotes majority fan
ownership of clubs.
