[Saba Sports News] In the 17th round of Ligue 2, Caen lost 0-1 at home to Clermont. Notably, Caen fans displayed banners during the match protesting against the club’s majority shareholder, Kylian Mbappe: “Mbappe, Caen is not your toy!” Two additional banners read: “Before shining on the world stage, please respect local figures.” and “Here, legends are created through hard work and loyalty.” This refers to Caen’s recent dismissal of respected head coach Nicolas Seube. Seube had been with Caen as a player since 2001 until his retirement in 2017. After retiring, he continued to work with the club, serving as head coach for the youth and B teams before taking over the first team in November 2023. Caen’s poor performance this season has left them third from bottom in Ligue 2, tied on points with the relegation zone, leading to Seube’s dismissal on December 29, 2024, which sparked fan dissatisfaction. In July 2024, Mbappe invested €20 million through his image company to acquire an 80% stake in Caen, becoming the club’s majority shareholder.
