[Saba Sports News] Recently, a major upset occurred in the men’s singles at the 2025 Badminton World Championships when Canadian post-00s player Victor Lai defeated Singapore’s top player Loh Kean Yew 2-0 to advance to the semifinals. Lai has successively beaten higher-ranked seeded players like Lu Guangzu, Jeon Hyeok Jin, and now Loh Kean Yew. This is Lai’s first time competing in the World Championships. Reviewing the match, Lai appeared to play with relative ease, without any apparent pressure against Loh. On the other hand, Loh seemed not fully recovered physically from his previous match against Kodai Naraoka. Additionally, Lai’s overall playing style leans toward defensive counterattacks, coupled with his youth. With the triple advantages of impact, confidence, and physical stamina, his victory over Loh completely exceeded all expectations. It must be said that Lai’s advancement has added even more drama to the men’s singles competition at this World Championships!
