[Saba Sports News] The Cleveland Cavaliers are preparing for a decisive offseason with star player Donovan Mitchell.
Terry Pluto of The Plain Dealer reports that the Cavaliers plan to either extend or trade Mitchell this summer, with “zero intention” of starting the 2024-25 season with him on an expiring contract.
Mitchell, a five-time All-Star, is set to earn $35.4 million next season and has a $37.1 million player option for 2025-26, making 2024-25 essentially his walk year. The Cavaliers hope to retain Mitchell with a potential max extension of four years and approximately $208 million, which he becomes eligible for on July 6. If Mitchell is unwilling to stay, Cleveland won’t delay a trade.
Several interesting trade possibilities exist for the 27-year-old Mitchell, who averaged an impressive 27-5-6 last season. However, one team is definitively off the table for a potential trade.
