[Saba Sports News] Shortly after the recently concluded La Liga match where Barcelona defeated Celta 4-3, Celta manager Claudio Giraldez stated that midfielder Ilaix Moriba suffered racist abuse when he was substituted out. Celta has filed a complaint with La Liga demanding a thorough investigation of this unacceptable behavior. Racist remarks can cause great psychological harm to Moriba. On the field, players should focus on the game, but being subjected to such insults makes him feel angry, frustrated, and helpless, affecting his performance and future career development. Previously, Moriba had also suffered racial discrimination and online harassment due to a contract renewal issue, which undoubtedly had a huge psychological impact on him. In my view, the phenomenon of racial discrimination in the stadium reflects the projection of societal racial problems onto the sports domain. Despite ongoing social progress, racist notions still exist in some people’s minds. This incident reminds us that eradicating racial discrimination requires joint efforts from society as a whole, not just within football stadiums but across all aspects of daily life.
