[Saba Sports News] As the Boston Celtics aim to build a new dynasty, they are drawing inspiration from an earlier NBA powerhouse.
Jared Weiss of The Athletic reported that the Celtics are signing Ron Harper Jr. to an Exhibit 10 deal. Harper Jr., who played for Boston’s Summer League team, will receive a one-year, veteran’s minimum contract.
Ron Harper Jr., a 24-year-old small forward, is the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper. The elder Harper was a defensive stalwart on the Chicago Bulls team that won three consecutive titles from 1996-98 and later won two more championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000 and 2001.
Harper Jr. went undrafted in 2022 after a four-year college career at Rutgers. He spent parts of the last two seasons on two-way contracts with the Toronto Raptors before being waived in December 2023 due to a season-ending shoulder injury.
Now on the mend, Harper Jr. will join the roster of the defending champion Celtics, who are navigating an interesting offseason.
