[Saba Sports News] Charles Barkley humorously cautioned the Los Angeles Lakers during his appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday. Discussing the In-Season Tournament, Barkley praised its inaugural run as highly successful. However, he expressed disdain for the notion of teams celebrating their tournament victory with a banner.
Asserting the triviality of the tournament in comparison to major achievements, Barkley said, “It was a huge success, but let’s not go overboard with banner raisings or parades. The In-Season Tournament isn’t a champagne-worthy event.”
Barkley humorously warned that if the Lakers decide to honor their tournament victory with a banner, he would playfully ridicule them on TNT. He emphasized that for teams like the Lakers and Celtics, the real goal should be to win more championships, not minor tournaments.
“There’s a bigger picture for teams like the Lakers or Celtics; it’s all about more championships,” Barkley remarked. “The Lakers really shouldn’t celebrate an In-Season Tournament victory with a banner. I’ll have a field day on TV if they do.”
Reports suggest Barkley might have the chance to follow through on his jest, as the Lakers are apparently planning to display a banner for their In-Season Tournament win, entering into a somewhat awkward territory of celebratory practices.
