[Saba Sports News] Japan’s beautiful badminton duo, Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama, secured the runner-up title in women’s doubles at the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals. This marks their second time since 2021 missing out on the year-end finals championship. After the match, Shida broke down in tears during an interview. Reflecting on this year, Shida mentioned that they faced numerous challenges and difficulties. Even after winning a bronze medal at the Olympics, they managed to maintain their smiles while competing, expressing gratitude for the support from teammates, family, friends, and coaches, which helped them overcome all obstacles. After sharing her thoughts, Shida couldn’t hold back her tears. In the updated world rankings this week, Shida and Matsuyama will rise to third place, after which they will temporarily split. Next year, Shida will partner with new teammate Misaki Matsutomo to compete in the Super 1000 series Malaysia Open and the Super 750 series India Open, while Matsuyama plans to take a break to recover before returning to compete alongside Shida.
